Phew, back on track

posted by Duncan at 11:02 pm on April 18th, 2005

Well, after about a week of nothing up, the site is back with a new host. Basically last week I checked my site as I normally do and found it had been deleted by my hosts again. After searching forums and wasting time finding out what gave (They lost the data backing up!!) I decided to ditch the space I had been using and pay for some. A big thanks to Matt W for advising Pair.com whom I have decided to use. They have everything installed that I would want and everything looks like it’s locked down. It’ll probably take me a few days to get everything back but the worst is out of the way.

Bloody Plusnet

UPDATE: It turns out the loss of site was due to malicious script running from a users webspace on the same server. The equally helpful response from plusnet was to re-upload your backed up site back onto the server. I’m sure all of those non technical users and infact 80% of everyone else enjoyed that response the most. Luckily I do backup my site so I’m kind of ok. It’s a special ISP that asks you to backup your own data !?

I came into work this morning and found that my whole site had been deleted! My hosts Plusnet seem to have made a major error. It seems that other are effected too judging by the message boards. I have managed to get all the text back but have to re-find all the images.

It makes me so mad that a large company can make such a simple error. You put up with scripts not running or servers slow, but deleting your files is taking the piss. I will await the excuse and decide then whether to continue giving them my trade.
