Jam and Spoon no more

posted by Duncan at 10:07 pm on January 18th, 2006

I was sad to hear that Mark Spoon (Markus Löffel) of the dance project Jam and Spoon passed away a few weeks back. Jam and Spoon created my all time favourite house track by producing the ‘Watch Out For The Stella Mix’ of ‘The Age of Love’ by The Age of Love (Bruno Sanchioni and Guieppe Cherchia). Gives me goosebumps just thinking of it. A shame such a genius died so young.

So sad to hear of his passing away. We were fed on a diet of Ronnie Barker and his ilk when I was growing up and it brought me much happiness. I’ve tried to use his jokes on many occasions, not quite to the reception I’m sure he got when he told them.

Ronnie Barker

He will be sorely missed.

RIP Jef Raskin 1943-2005

The saw the sad news that Jef Raskin died the other day. Jef created the Macintosh computer as employee number 31 at Apple in the early 1980s, revolutionizing computer interface design.

Jef invented “click and drag” and many other methods now taken for granted by computer users. He named the Macintosh project after his favorite variety of apple, the McIntosh, modifying the spelling for copyright purposes.

A great pioneer..

r.i.p craig kelly (1966-2003) snowboarder supreme

posted by Duncan at 5:29 pm on March 2nd, 2003

For over 15 years, Craig Kelly has left an indelible mark on the sport of snowboarding. Craig’s career recently evolved into backcountry guiding where he was based primarily in British Columbia. Over the weekend, Craig was guiding a group of skiers and riders in the Revelstoke area of British Columbia. The group was caught in an avalanche. Tragically, Craig Kelly and six others did not survive. Craig’s contribution to the sport of snowboarding will go unsurpassed–he was crowned World Champion four times and was the three-time U.S. Open Champion. The mountains are where Craig was the happiest, and he always approached the backcountry with great caution and respect. He will be sadly missed.

snowboarding world mourns loss of jeff anderson

The snowboarding world suffered another tragic loss this weekend with the death of Jeff Anderson.

Jeff Anderson

Jeff leaves us at a high point in his career. He established himself with his exceptional park and backcountry skills, but was most recognized as one of the most progressive rail riders and personalities in snowboarding. Jeff’s immersion in the urban street scene and his creative, optimistic, individualistic approach helped take the sport in a new direction. He was instrumental in the growth and development of rail jams, and was integrally involved in the design of the custom-built jib features for the Rail Jam at this year’s US Open.
