Easy invoicing with Blinksale

posted by Duncan at 5:00 pm on July 27th, 2005

I have been checking out a newly launched Web 2.0 site named www.blinksale.com. As the sales pitch says: It’s the easiest way to send invoices online, and I think I might just agree with them. I find sending invoices a real pain in the butt, and keeping track of them and making sure people pay on time etc even more of a pain. This Site makes it all so simple and it looks just great. I don’t think I send enough invoices to warrant the monthly charge so I am sticking with the Free option for the time being.

I advise people to go give it a try and see what you think yourselves.

Semi-Permenant 05 Event

Semi-Permenant 05I was lucky enough to get a ticket for the Semi-Permanent event held at the Barbican. It was yesterday and today but I couldn’t make yesterday. I only managed to stay until lunch time because of a previous engagement but blimey I enjoyed what I saw. Well I say what I saw, I mean when I saw the guys from Lobo and especially Denis Kamioka aka CISMA. This guy’s work was mind blowing. He played his show reels and work that he had previously done for Diesel when he worked at Lobo. He was an ex Graffiti artists and you could still see that in his work. I highly recommend going to his website and checking out his stuff.

A translation app that produces beautiful images

posted by Duncan at 11:13 am on April 29th, 2005

I got sent this link today. I can’t begin to explain what it does, but here’s what is says on their site. It seems to work it’s way through your source code and build a tree like structure based on it’s findings.

Tree is a translation program. the simulation of real space by software as a starting point and basic question characterizes the search for an algorithm (design specification) which illustrates a real tree. tree interprets each html page as a design specification; the html space determines the algorithm and generates the visual world of the translation beyond simulation.

The screenshot above is what the result of typing whomwah.com in. I think the results are beautiful.

My friend Gideon has this great link on his site of an amazing flash animation by Michal Levy. It reminds me of an old pink panther film for some reason. With a soundtrack of John Coltrane, it really is an amazing piece of work.

Tomoko Takahashi

Tomoko TakahashiI visited the Tomoko Takahashi installation at the Serpentine gallery this afternoon. I knew her work but had never seen it in the flesh. The show consists of about 5 rooms with an installation in each. Each follow slightly different theme. I’m not sure what I liked about them, I actually think it was the colours, the actual bits and pieces were quite literally junk. I also quite like the order of everything. I am a bit like that myself so I’m told so I found a common interest there. Here’s an intro to the exibition:

Tomoko Takahashi’s sculptural installations strike a delicate balance between chaos and order. She uses an array of found objects and discarded materials, subjecting them to her own complex set of organizing principles. Takahashi spends weeks on site during the making of these installations, and the finished works are often punctuated with references to the time and labour involved. This emphasis on the construction processes that are usually hidden or kept out of the public eye is central to Takahashi’s work.

This is a great collaborative art project in which you if you choose the flash link get to zoom into the image. The thing is you don’t stop, you just keep zooming. Really nice
