Another eBay hoax email
Ok, so I know people are told all the time that you shouldn’t act on emails that ask for your details outright with no mention of you. I got sent one of the many eBay hoax emails today and I have to say that it was a good one, and one that a non-technical person could quite easily get caught out on. I though I would put up a couple of screen shots so you can see what to expect (Click them to see a larger image).

The actual email I received looked like this (note the from address looks like it comes from eBay.co.uk). As you can see, it looks very much like an email you could receive, apart from the fact my name is not mentioned anywhere. Strange as they are telling me that my account has been frozen yet they don’t appear to know who I am. Also if you look at the full headers of the email they also tell a story. There is no mention of ebay.co.uk or .com or in fact ebay the word at all.

So next I click on the link the email supplied and come to another page. Check out the URL in the address bar. This is certainly not an eBay URL. This is the one that I thought most scary. This is basically a form requesting any important info you might have, it even asks for your bloody pin number. The saddest part is that there will be many people whom are not as web-sure who will be filling in these forms still full of anger that they received the email in first place, with someone telling them they have done something wrong.
So if you receive such emails, use it as excuse to pass the fact you recieved such a hoax to people who wouldn’t know any better. Oh and if you recieve these eBay style emails you can forward them on to spoof@ebay.co.uk and they will deal with it themselves.
